Binge Recovery

I had a classical binge on Saturday night. I was down to 143.5 on Saturday morning but we ordered out on Sat night for Mother's Day and I went to town. I had a meatball parm sub, chips, ice cream cone and chinese dumplings. The funny part is that I was so hungry that I didn't hurt after eating all of that food. I totally enjoyed it and didn't feel guilty. But now I am dealing with the consequences. FUN FUN

I was up 4 pounds the next day!! I couldn't believe it! I still am not down to my weight on Sat AM of 143.5. I have been 146 for the past 2 days. It will take me all week to recover from this! No more binges / refeeds / cheats - whatever you want to call it until I reach my goal!!!

I also had a ton of stress yesterday because of our whacky tenants in our rental property. God they are the biggest pain in the asses .. even the neighbors don't like them! So I am taking today off from working out. I will still get in 5 workouts but I just felt like taking today off!!

Colon Cleanse with Low Carb

I have been reading a lot of forums lately regarding refeeds and cyclical ketogenic dieting principles. I have heard a lot of references to people doing a colon cleanse when starting the diet. As you probably know, keeping things moving on a low-carb diet is a challenge. I really want to try it but I am a bit nervous to do so right before the holidays. I think I am going to order a colon cleanse product after the holidays. Maybe it will also help me to clear out my system of all the icky foods that I am sure I will indulge in over the holidays.

Sour Stomach

I am not sure if this is due to my low-carb diet but I have had the worst nausea lately. I remember back in my Kimkins days she referred to "SNATT" - semi nauseous all the time. That is not somewhere I want to go again! The strange thing is that I have been doing strict low-carb for the last 3 weeks but only the past few days I've had this. TOM also came today and I am wondering if that could be it also. For some reason I've been nauseous right before I get my period. Ugh this sucks! I am considering a free meal later on in the week if this continues!

Staying power when dieting

I am beginning to see why a more moderate approach to dieting might be a good idea for me. I tend to fall into extremes with eating and exercising when I am trying to lose weight for an event (i.e. Christmas). I start not eating dinner so that the scale will be down the next day. You can only sustain this practice for so long and eventually the scale isn't going to move when eating very low calories. Getting used to the scale not moving every single day is hard for me but it is important to learn because in the past I have gained all of my weight back because I could no longer take the extremely low calories. Moderation .. that's what I keep telling myself ...

C-K-D.com

I spent most of yesterday feeling like crap and searching for info on cyclical ketogenic diets. I came across some interesting info on how to incorporate a carb-up or refeed so that you have maximum fat loss and minimal muscle loss but in order to do this diet you have to exercise. Otherwise it is best to do a standard ketogenic diet such as Atkins or Protein Power. Here is a good site but the forum has the most info. It seems somewhat active but not booming. C-K-D.com

During my workout last Friday I barely made it through it and had to have a bagel afterwards. After going 2 weeks with minimal carbs and I think my calories were too low my body just didn't have the energy to workout. Firm workouts have been killing me lately too. I want that treadmill so bad!

Ketogenic Diets

I've spent the day researching refeeds and free meals and cyclic ketogenic diets and I've only scratched the surface. I would love to get Lyle McDonald's book(s) so I'll put them on my Christmas list. Here is a good thread on refeeds from Low Carb Friends that I've only just begun to read. It's a long thread so get some coffee! Here is another great article I came across regarding ketogenic diets.

Atkins Induction

Daily Weight: 170/172/160
Gain / Loss: HA
Workout: WEIGHTS
Calories & Carbs Yesterday: 820 CALORIES / 16 CARBS

Monday: Day 2 Induction

Scale shock. I finally got on the scale yesterday and was shocked! I was 174 lbs. This is the highest weight I have been in years! To make things even more depressing I went back and looked at my weight from last year and I was 161 the Monday after Thanksgiving last year! 13 lbs I've gained since last year. Stupid .. stupid that I have let myself fall off track.

I decided to do Atkins Induction by the book for 2 weeks. We are taking our daughter away for her birthday the weekend of 12/7 and I would like to be down 10 lbs - to be 160. I think I can do it if I stay the course. No drinking or eating carbs. Friday night will be hard to not have any cocktails but I'm trying not to think about it.

It was raining today so I couldn't go out for a walk. I just can't get into doing Firm workouts lately. I love getting outside and feel so much better afterwards. I am doing weights 4 days a week and core (Cathe) workout 2 days per week. That is the plan.

I feel like crap today. Tired, headache - I just want to lay on the couch all day! Atkins flu I guess. Hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday I'll feel great and get that energy boost and lose the appetite.

I find lunch the hardest meal to do with Atkins. I think today I'm going to have mozzarella and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and basil. Yummy!

Holiday Desserts

I just can’t believe that next week is Thanksgiving already! This year sure has flown by – with many, many ups and downs! The holidays and summer time are my hardest times with keeping to my eating plan. Holiday dinners, cocktails, desserts – you get the picture! It sure is hard to maintain my weight, much less lose.

I think exercise is key during this time. Exercising allows you to eat your favorite Christmas Pudding without it showing up on your hips and thighs. But then the problem with exercising more is the time factor. Christmas is such a crazy busy time it is hard to find fit a workout in. But I always feel better after holiday dinners and parties if I workout beforehand. The hardest part of working out is putting your shoes on!

Intermittant Fasting

THURSDAY (The day AFTER Halloween)

Daily Weight: 170/170.5/155
Gain / Loss: +.5/0
Workout: NONE

Well I've been avoiding posting my weights because I have totally screwed up yet again. This past weekend was so busy and tiring from getting our rental house together. I felt like we were on an episode of Property Ladder - you know when those people are freaking out at the end trying to get the house ready for the open house. Not fun!!

Anyway, I have at least been reading some forums (Low Carb Friends mainly) for some inspiration and ideas. I came across the Intermittant Fasting thread. I have never been a 'grazer' and I tend to do better with a set number of meals. If you give me free reign to eat then I will eat even when I'm not hungry. I have to work out the details so I'm playing around with this type of eating for the next few days but here are some preliminary rules I've set up.

1. Eat between 1pm - 6pm

2. 2 meals, no snacks

3. Low carb meals but record in Calorie King so that I don't go over 20 net carbs

4. No cocktails after 6pm

5. Exercise M-F

Speaking of exercise - it has been cold here in NJ in the mornings. I am not strong enough to get out there and walk when it is 30 degrees and pitch black out. Just not doing it. So I must find an alternative. I wish I had the money now to buy a treadmill but I don't so ... back to the Firm I go! I really want to get the new TransFirmation System! I have the absolute best results with the Firm but I have gotten lazy and I want to walk and listen to my iPod. Maybe if I buy the new system then that will motivate me??

I'm going to do somemore research on Intermittant Fasting and I'll post later.

Also, I did ok with Halloween but I sure was craving the candy! My daughter came home with a huge bag of candy. It is so hard to resist!!!

Do It Anyway

I had wanted to post the card that came with the Beck Diet Solution Workbook. I have found myself reading it numerous times throughout the day.

Do it anyway
"Even if I don't feel like using a diet skill, I have to do it anyway. If I do only what I feel like doing, I won't be able to lose weight and keep it off."

I just love that quote and I find it comforting yet motivating. I hope you enjoy it too!
